Lubricant, oil, gel, and cream.

What kind of lubricant do you use? Do you know why or a specific brand you like to use? I use gel and Pure Pro cream.

Last week, I went to our North Carolina campus  and I taught Hot Ashi and then became a student and took Advanced for the 4th time. I’ve never taken a class with Julie and I wanted to see what kind of new things I would learn. I’m amazed that every time since being home that I hear her voice when I reapply my cream.

I use a lot of different lubricants in my sessions based on the goals of the session and the tissue under my feet.

Julie said something that I continue to hear, she said, “I only reapply cream as if my foot is dry and not their tissue.” And that has shifted so many things for me. I still give them a base layer of lubricant when I begin the session but I only reapply if I feel like my foot needs more lubricant.

This seems so elementary and yet so profound. And this is why you should take classes many times and with different instructors and different students.

And changing that small piece in my mind has been changing the layers of tissue that I work with and the various patterns my clients have been presenting.

One thing my clients mention often is how I’m constantly learning. Even when I teach many of the classes we offer, I’m still learning. And if I’m learning, you will too.

There was a lot more that came from that class that will include me getting a new fancy table and inspiration on how to work with certain body types in side-lying massage. I’ll save that for another post, or better yet, sign up for a class with us and open the many layers of learning to use your feet to massage.
