Care Has to Include the Caregiver

I don’t want to teach you how to burn out more efficiently

There’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot as I prepare for this next season of teaching.

Massage therapists are incredibly good at caring for other people’s bodies.

We’re often much less good at caring for our own.

We learn technique, anatomy, pathology, protocols.

We learn how to create beautiful experiences for our clients.

And somewhere along the way, many of us discover that the work is taking something from our bodies that we don’t know how to replenish.

Hands ache. Feet ache. Shoulders tense.

Our nervous systems stay “on.”

We push through.

Because we’re caregivers.

Because people need us.

Because we love this work.

And because somewhere along the way, many of us learned that excellence means sacrifice.

I’m not interested in that story anymore.

I don’t want to teach you how to become better at burning yourself out.

I want to teach you a way of working that can sustain you.

That’s one of the reasons FasciAshi matters so much to me.

Barefoot work isn’t simply another technique.

It offers another relationship with gravity, leverage, pacing, pressure, and presence.

It asks:

What if your body didn’t have to fight so hard to do good work?

That’s the question underneath all my CE classes.

And it’s why I’m excited about the fall teaching schedule:

These aren’t just technique classes.

They’re opportunities to think about longevity, efficiency, presence.

And what it means to build a career in touch that doesn’t require sacrificing yourself to sustain it.

Because I believe this:

The care we offer others cannot be completely separated from the way we care for ourselves.

The practitioner is part of the treatment environment.

Your body matters too.

​BODY WISDOM​
My signature somatic group class is offered every other Saturday evening at 4pm and Sunday morning at 8am.

These are small, accessible spaces to slow down, notice what’s happening in your body, and practice being in relationship with yourself.

Please register at least 24 hours in advance.

​MOTHER CIRCLE​
Mother Circle begins September 19 at 7am and will meet every other Saturday.

This is a space for mothers to be witnessed, supported, and reminded that we were never meant to do this alone.
