Surely, you’ve come across clients who seek your services because they are in pain. And Myofascial Barefoot Massage Therapy (also known as FasciAshi) is a great tool to use when addressing pain in your clients.
But understanding pain goes beyond what you “do” on the table and actually starts before the table work begins. Here are some questions to ask your clients to determine how you can help them.
- Can you start to describe the sensations you’re experiencing?
- Can you move your body to a place where you find ease or less pain? What does that look and feel like?
- Did you have an injury? Do you know the timeline of how the pain increased or decreased after the injury?
- If not, when did this pain start? Is there another place in your body that is ‘making up’ for the pain that you’re experiencing?
It’s important to start to ask more questions about their experience. I realize in some settings that is not possible due to time constraints etc. But I can promise you, asking these questions will help the client feel heard and help you understand what to do during the session. If you don’t have the time to ask these questions during the intake, would it be possible for your client to send you the info prior to their session?
Try these out and let me know how it goes!
